Supporting our members, offering outstanding psychoanalytic training to mental health professionals, and educating the general public about psychoanalysis since 1999.

membership

The Society offers three categories of membership:

  1. Active (psychoanalyst member)
  2. Affiliate (candidate member)
  3. Community

Active members are IPA-certified psychoanalysts who have been elected to the Society by vote of the membership. Analyst members participate in the governance of the Society, serve on committees, teach in the Institute, and facilitate operation of the organization. Members enjoy benefits including fee reductions at special events and are invited to present original papers at NPSI Scientific Meetings. All members are members of the Confederation of Independent Psychoanalytic Societies (CIPS) and Fellows of the International Psychoanalytical Association (FIPA).

Members who are board certified in psychoanalysis are indicated by the credential BCPsa or ABPsa. Training and Supervising Analysts are indicated by an asterisk after their name. Clicking on a member’s name takes you to a description of their practice and contact information.

IPA-certified psychoanalysts who trained elsewhere may also apply for active membership. For an application form, click here

Individuals educated at non-IPA Institutes are invited to view the official Bylaws to determine if your training meets qualifications to apply for active membership. This information is located on Page 2, Article 6 of the Bylaws. For additional information, email the Administrator at admin@npsi.us.com

Affiliate members are candidates enrolled in psychoanalytic training at the NPSI Institute. Candidates serve on committees and offer valuable feedback to the Society at candidate-faculty meetings. Candidates may also attend special events and receive publications at reduced rates. Candidate members are automatically granted complimentary affiliate membership in CIPS until graduation. Other CIPS membership benefits include complimentary membership in the International Psychoanalytical Studies Organization (IPSO) and reduced rates for access to the Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing (PEP) database.

Upon completing training, graduates may apply for active membership in the Society and are accepted by vote of the membership. For a roster of current candidates, click here.

Community members are defined by their interest in psychoanalysis and desire to support the scientific and educational activities of the Society. Community members include psychotherapists and allied health professionals (medical doctors, physician’s assistants, nurses, and so on); journalists, editors and writers; actors and playwrights; and others whose work may be enhanced by a deeper understanding of the psychic reality and human mental life. Community members receive a discount on registration at special events and on publication subscriptions and may volunteer on some committees. For a roster of community members, click here.
