Interview with NPSI Founders Recording

In this My NPSI video interview conducted by Rikki Ricard, Maxine Anderson and Marianne Robinson reflect on their work together as founding members of Northwestern Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. In a lovely informal setting, the conversation moves from inspirational moments that set the IPA Study Group in motion to obstacles that needed to be dealt with for the organization to become an IPA Component Society with strong connections to the wider psychoanalytic community. For over twenty years, these two pioneering women have been cornerstones of psychoanalysis locally and regionally as well as dear friends. Together they share their stories, their joys, their inspirations and their struggles as they worked to lay the foundation for NPSI's continued growth and inspired leadership. We hope you enjoy learning about NPSI's history and getting to know these two founding members. There is no charge for accessing this video.

Bios:

Maxine Anderson, MD, FIPA is a training and supervising psychoanalyst at NPSI and at the Seattle Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. Her practice is informed by contemporary Kleinian views and by the work of Wilfred Bion. She has written journal articles and two books: The Wisdom of Lived Experience (2016), Karnac and
From Tribal Division to Welcoming Inclusion: Psychoanaltyic Perspectives (2019), Routledge. Her current interests include the major themes of the second book which involve clarifying the role of the splitting processes in polarization and mental fragmentation and the importance of working toward mental integration for clarity of thought. Clarity of thought, in her view, being urgently needed individually and nationally during these turbulent times.

Marianne Robinson PhD, MSW, FIPA is a training and supervising psychoanalyst and a founding member of NPSI. She is also a full member of The Psychoanalytic Center of California. In May she transitioned her clinical practice from Seattle to Anchorage where she has taught and supervised for many years. Her thinking is compatible with that of Bion, Klein, Meltzer, and with those who continue to develop their ideas. Her research and writing focuses on the potential for growth that can be realized when noting, investigating, understanding and analyzing the vestiges of early trauma as it appears within the analytic relationship. Marianne is also a Certified Group Psychotherapist.

Rikki Ricard, LMHC, FIPA is a faculty member and graduate of NPSI. She maintains a private practice in Seattle, WA working with adults, couples, and adolescents as well as providing supervision and consultation.
